It would also be nice to recognize the fact that many of the men in Company C were related to Willis Norris and George W. Autry. Willis and George. Names like Langford, Allen, Malcolm, East and others were all cousins.

Colonel Samuel P. LUMPKIN, He was 30 years old when he joined the 44th as there Captain on March 17, 1862. Wounded in Seven Days' Fight around Richmond, Va. 1862. Promoted Lieutenant-Colonel June 28, 1862, and Colonel May 26, 1863. Lost leg at Gettysburg, Pa., he was hit with the same ball that hit captain Haygood. He was captured with the medical wagon train of CSA near Hagerstown Md. He Died of typhoid fever while in prison, on September 11, 1863 Born in Clarke county Ga. 1832 he was living with Mr. John C Johnson in 1860. He had a person value of $3000.00 when the war started he worked for SC&Imp. Company. He was never married.

1ST Lieutenant, F. M. DARNELL, He was 23 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 9, 1863. Promoted 1ST Lieutenant Killed at Winchester, Va., September 19,1864. He was born 1839 and married Elizabeth was a farmer in 1860 Pickens Ga.

Junior 2ND Lieutenant, John W. REAVES, He was 28 years old when he joined the 44th as Junior 2nd Lieutenant on March 17, 1862. Killed at Ellison's Mill, Va., June 26, 1862. He had a wife Karzie, and girl Sarah born in 1859. He was born in 1834 in Clarke county Ga.

Junior 2nd Lieutenant, W. C. WILLIAMS, He was 33 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on May 7, 1862. Promoted Junior Second Lieutenant December 6, 1862. Killed at Chancellorsville, Va. He was born 1839 he was married to Martha they had 2 young children he was a farmer when the war started.

2nd Sergeant, George W. KLUTTS, He was 27 years old when he joined the 44th as 2ND Sergeant on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va., May 2, 1863, died from wound in Richmond, Va., June 2, 1863. He was born 1835 in Watkensville Ga. the son of Jacob and Millie Klutz, in 1860 he was working a brick mason like his father. He may be related to our present day captain Van Buskirk

4th Sergeant, S. F. MAXEY, He was 27 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Promoted Fourth Sergeant May, 1863. Killed at Spottsylvania, Va. Was Born in 1835 in Pike county Ga. to James F. Maxey on his farm. He married Sophie-Ann in 1855 they had 2 children was a farmer before the war.

Sergeant, James H. JACKSON, He was 22 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on September 17. 1862. Promoted sergeant April, 1863. Died of disease in Richmond, Va. June 30, 1863. He was born 1840 in Clarke county Ga. in 1860 he was living on his mother Lorettia's farm with his brother and sisters.

3rd Corporal, John H. HUNT, He was 22 years old when he joined the 44th as 3rd Corporal on March 17, 1862. Died of disease in Richmond, Va., July, 1863. Born in 1840 in Catoosa county Ga. In 1860 worked as farm labor on C. Hunt Farm. He was not married.

4TH Corporal, Marshall MOONEY, He was 24 years old when he joined the 44th as 4th Corporal on March 17, 1862. Killed at Malvern Hill, Va., 1862. He was born 1838 in Ireland moved to Clarke county Ga., In 1860 he worked as a farm labor on Philip O'Brien farm.

Private, Joseph A. ADAMS, He was 25 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Died of disease in camp near Richmond, Va., June 1, 1862. He was born 1837 in Oconee County on his father John and mother Elizabeth Adams farm. He had married Nancy and had there farm at the start of the war.

Private, W. F. ADAMS, He was 32 years old when he joined the 44th as a Private on March 17, 1862. Killed at Ellison's Mill, Va. He was born 1830 in Athens Clarke county Ga. He was a Banker married Emma and they had a son Paul 1859.

Private, John R. AYCOCK, He was 21 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Ellison's Mill, Va. Died of disease March 1863. Born in 1841 Walton Ga. on his father R. and mother Martha Aycock Farm he had 4 brothers, and 4 sisters was not married.

Private, James P. BIGGS, He was 17 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Died in hospital, 1863 He was born in 1845 on his Grand father's farm. In 1860 he had 3 brothers and 3 sisters was not married was attending school.

Private, Alexander BURGER, He was 18 years old when he joined the 44th as a private, August 30, 1862. Died in hospital in Danville, Va. Born in 1844 in Clarke county Ga. on the farm of his father Jacob and mother Martha Burger.

Private, J. A. BURGESS, He was 18 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Died of fever in Richmond, Va., 1862 He was born in 1844 on his father John and mother Mary Farm in Franklin Ga.

Private, Doctor R. BUTLER, He was 20 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on, March 17, 1862. Died of disease near Orange C. H. Va., March 5, 1864 He was born 1842 at his father Jesse E. and mother Nancy farm in Watkensville Clarke county Ga. Jesse was his brother.

Private, Jesse M. BUTLER, He was 24 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on, March 17, 1862. Killed at Ellison's Mill, Va. He was born 1837 at his father Jesse E. and mother Nancy farm in Watkensville Clarke county Ga. Doctor R. was one of his younger brothers.

Private, John B. DANIEL, He was 32 years old when he joined the 44th as a Private on March17,1862.Killed at Chanceilorsville, Va. Born 1830 to John and Elizabeth Daniel on there farm at Lauerns Ga. He married Camilla and was an overseer in 1860.

Private, Josiah H. DANIEL, He was 24 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Killed at Ellison's Mill, Va. He was born in 1838 in Henry Ga. on his father Farm.

Private, Newton J. DANIEL, He was 26 years old when he enter the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862 Captured at Spotsylvania, Va. Killed accidentally while returning from prison March 1865. He was Born 1836 in Gwinnett Ga. He worked on his Brothers farm when the war started he was never married.

Private, F. M .DANIEL, He was 32 year old when he enter the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Gettysburg, Pa. Killed at Winchester, Va. September 19, 1864. Born 1832 in Canton Georgia Father was R. F. Daniel owned a hotel were he worked his mother was Nancy. He was not married when the war started.

Private, Howard DOOLITTLE, He was 23 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Killed at Ellison's Mill, Va. He was born 1839 in Oconee county Ga. was living in 1860 on his mother Nancy Farm in Clarke county Ga.

Private, William EAST, He was 19 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Died of disease in Richmond, Va., July 1862. He was born in 1843 Oconee county Ga. His father was Silas East who made wagon's. His mother died in 1848. 1860 he worked on Mr. Thomas Farm.

Private, William B. EDWARDS, He was 19 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Died in hospital January, 1863. He was born 1843 in Clarke county Ga. on father J. N. and mother Pamela Edwards farm.

Private, James FAMBROUGH, He was 18 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Killed at Chancellorsville, Va. He was born in 1844 Oconee county Ga. on the farm of his father James, and mother Margat he worked of his father's farm in 1860.

Private, John FULLILOVE, He was 27 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va., and died from wound in hospital. He was born in 1835 at Cassville Ga. in 1860 he lived with his mother Francis he was not married.

Private, William T. GILES, He was 35 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Died of measles in hospital in Richmond, Va., 1864. He was born in 1827 Oconee county Ga. Married to Francis and they have 5 children he worked on a farm in 1860.

Private, James GLOVER, He was 19 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Ellison's Mill, Va., 1862, and died from wound. He was born in 1843 in Cobb Ga. to Milton and Susan Glover. His father made shoes.

Private, David W. GRIFFETH, He was 29 years old when he joined the 44th as a Private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va., and died from wound. He was born in 1833 in Clarke county Ga. to Michael and Lucinda Griffeth farm. He had a twin sister Martha in 1860 he lived with R. B. Dicken a local merchant he was a shoemaker.

Private, W. W. HUNT, He was 23 years old when he joined the 44th as a private. March 17, 1862. Wounded at Sharpsburg, Md. Captured at Spottsylvania, Va. and died in prison. He was Born 1839 In Hancock Ga. he worked on a farm before the war.

Private, N. L. JOHNSON. He was 30 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Killed at Sharpsburg, Md. He was born 1832 in Floyd Ga. the son of Perry and Rebecca Johnson. In 1860 he work on his father's farm.

Private, H. M. KIDD, He was 32 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Killed at Ellison's Mill, Va. He was born in 1830 in Athens Ga. In 1860 he was married to Sarah and they had 2 children. He was a cargo shipper.

Private, W. P. McWHORTER, He was 32 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17. 1862. Died in hospital September 1862. He was born in 1830 in Athens, Clarke county Ga. in 1860 he was married to Ruth and they had 2 young girls, he was a clerk in a store.

Private, Henry MAXEY, He was 24 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va. and died from wound. He was born 1838 in Oconee county Ga. In 1860 he was a farmer and married to Ann and they had a daughter.

Private, Thomas J. MOSELEY. He was 23 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862, Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va. Killed at Cedar Creek, Va. He was born in 1839 at Watkensville Oconee county Ga. 1860 he worked on his father Thomas Mosley farm.

Private, John MURROUGH, He was 28 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on August 1, 1862. Killed at Ellison's Mill, Va. He was born 1834 in Watkinsville Oconee county Ga. on his father William and mother Louisa Murry farm. He was not married and a clerk in his father store.

Private, George W. NUNNALLY, He was 19 years old when enter the 44th as a private on August 2, 1862. Wounded July 21, 1864. Killed at Petersburg, Va., April 1, 1865. Was Born 1843 in Watkinsville Clarke county Ga. to John and Elizabeth Nunnally on there farm.

Private, William C. NUNNALLY, He was 19 years old when he joined the 44th as a private. August 2, 1862. Captured at Spotsylvania, Va. he died in prison. He was Born 1843 in Gwinett county Ga. on the farm of His father Washington and mother Harrit Nunnally.

Private, Benjamin F. OWENS, He was 31 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on May 7, 1862 Died of disease near Richmond, Va..July, 1862. He was born in 1831 in South Carolina, in 1860 he was a farmer married to Francis with two daughters living in Ware county Ga.

Private, John J. OWENS, He was 23 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on May 7. 1862. Died in hospital 1863. He was born 1839 in Cobb county Ga. married to Julia they have no children and he is an Overseer on R. Millers plantation.

Private, W. A. ROBERTSON, He was 22 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on May 7, 1862. Killed at Ellison's Mill, Va. He was born in 1840 in Athens Clarke county Ga. He is living with his father on his farm in 1860 his mother had died.

Private, J. E. ROYSTER. He was 26 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on May 7, 1862. Killed at Ellison's Mill, Va. He was born in 1836 in Clarke county Ga. then moved to Indiana got married to Delilah they have 2 children was a farmer. When the war started he came back to Oconee county Ga.

Private, Henry SIMONTON, He was 17 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on May 7. 1862. Died of disease near Richmond. Va., July, 1862. He was born 1845 in Watkensville Oconee county Ga. on his father Sam and mother Ann Simonton Farm.

Private, Thomas J. SIMONTON, He was 38 years old when he enter the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Wounded at Gettysburg, Died July 1, 1863 from the battle wound The son of Robert, and Mathilda Simonton born 7 of October 1824, Was married Jan. 24 1847 to Mahala Ann Nunnelly, left 5 children fatherless. they lived in Walton, Clarke county Ga.

Private, P. M. STEWART, He was 28 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on May 7, 1862. Wounded at Ellison's Mill, Va. and died from wound. He was born 1834 in Athens Ga. In 1860 he worked on a farm and married to Sarah.

Private, Gilmer A. TILLER, He was 23 years old when he enter the 44th as a private, May 7, 1862. Captured in Pennsylvania, he died in prison. Born in Clarke county in 1839 the oldest son of Elisa and Lencey Tiller he had 2 sisters and brother, worked on his father farm before the war.

Private, Thomas J. THOMPSON, He was 26 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on May 7. l862. Died in Hospital January, 1863. He was born in 1836 Clarke county Ga. In 1860 he worked on his father B. M. Thompson farm.

Private, Aaron WHITEHEAD, He was 37 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on May 7, 1862. Died at home of disease, April 1863. He is born 1825 in Watkensville Oconee county Ga. In 1860 he is work on Mary Shadwick farm he was not married.

Private, Henry WHITEHEAD, He was 25 year old when he joined the 44th as a private, May 7, 1862. he was Born 1837 in Clarke county Ga. in 1860 he worked on his father Reason Whitehead farm. Killed at Spotsylvania, Va.

Private, Lewis WHITEHEAD, he was 33 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on November 7, 1863. Wounded near Richmond, Va., Captured and died in prison. He was born 1829 in Watkensville Oconne county Ga. In 1860 he is married to Julia and they have 4 children on there farm.

Private, Samuel J. WILCOXEN, He was 26 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on May 7, 1862. Died of disease near Goldsboro, N.C., April 20, 1862. He was born in 1836 in Oconee county Ga. In 1860 he was a farmer and not married.

Private, William WILLOUGHBY, He was 33 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on May 7, 1862. Died of disease in Richmond, Va. He was born 1829 in Watkinsville Oconee county Ga. In 1860 he was married Sarah they had 2 children he was a farmer on there farm.

There were 57 men wounded or 38% of the men 7 men died from there wounds listed above. 8 men discharged account of wound.

1st Sergeant, Joseph H. McREE, He was 34 years old when he enter the 44th as 1st Corporal on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Gettysburg, Pa., and again at Fort Steadman, Va. Promoted 1ST Sergeant. Served through the war. The son of Thomas and Frances McRee Born in July 14, 1828 he was carpenter by trade. Owned his home value at $1100.00, he married April 10, 1851 to Susan F. Elder McRee, they had 4 children after the war they had 3 more children. In 1903 he was living in Decatur Ga. Died Aug. 8 1906 Watkinsville, Oconee county Ga.

3rd Sergeant, William J. WHITEHEAD, he was 26 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on May 7, 1862. Promoted Third Sergeant. Lost leg at Wilderness, Va. Discharged account of wound Born 1836 the son of Daniel and Anna Whitehead on there farm near Athens Ga. He married Sarah and they had Jane 1862. After the war they had 4 more children moved to a farm in Jackson Ga. He worked and lived at Mr. Asken on his farm 1880. In 1910 he and his wife lived in Hall Ga.

5TH Sergeant, D. H. MALCOM, He was 27 years old when he joined the 44th as 5th Sergeant on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Ellison's Mill, Va. Discharged account disability 1863 He was born 1835 in Walton Ga. Married Elizabeth in 1867 they had 3 children. He was a farmer. He lived in Oconee county Ga. in 1903.

5th Sergeant, D. B. ELDER, He was 33 years old when he joined the 44th as 2ND Corporal on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va. Promoted 5TH Sergeant. Served through the war. Born in 1829 in Clarke county Ga. on his father Doctor and mother Melinda Elder farm. in 1850 he was working on the farm married Martha they had 4 children. He moved to Texas and bought a farm sold the farm and moved back in 1861. After the war he came back to Clarke county farm in 1903 he is living in Oconee county Ga.

Private, George A. NOLAND, He was 19 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on August 2, 1862. Wounded at Ellison's Mill, Va., and discharged October. 1862. He was born in 1843 After the war he married Virginia and they had a little girl he had a farm in Thomas county Ga. 1870.

Private, A. J. AYCOCK, He was 25 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va. Born in Clarke county Ga. in 1837 after the war he moved to De Soto La. and worked as a blacksmith was not married. There is no record of him after 1870.

Private, William P. BEARDEN, He was 32 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va. Lost arm at Wilderness, Va. Discharged account of wound Born in 1831 in Madison Ga. In 1880 lives with his Brother in Madison Ga. He is the Tax reviver. In 1903 he was living in Madison Ga.

Private, William L. BIGGS, He was 15 years old under age when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. he was James younger brother Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va. Surrended at Appomatox, Va. He was born 1847 in Clarke county Ga. the son of Elizabeth Biggs on her farm. After the war he went to Limestone Texas as a Farmer was a border in David Matthews home. By 1903 he returned to live in Oconee county Ga.

Private, Silas GARDNER, He was 18 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Ellison's Mill, Va., Discharged account of wound He was born in 1844 in Athens Clarke county Ga. the son of William H, and Sarah Gardner he worked with his father as a mechanic he died at home before 1870 was never married.

Private, Charles SANDERS, He was 22 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on May 7, 1862. Wounded at Spotsylvania, Va. He was Born in 1840 in Clarke county the son of Silas, and Polly Sanders his father was a factory guard. He was a factory worker in 1860. He married Ann and they had 3 children, he was a miller at this time. He died in 1897 at home.

Private, John E, THOMAS, He was 21 years old when he enter the 44th as a private. May 7,1862. Wounded at Malvern Hill. Va., 1862. Served through the war. He was born in 1841 in Lee Ga. he was in school in 1860 and working on his Mother Theqensa Farm he married Manetta in 1860 and had a daughter in 1861, After the war he returned to the farm they had Vertur in 1869 and his wife died, he remarried Nancy and they had 4 more children his farm is value at $4000 in 1870. In 1903 he is living in Oconee county Ga.

Private, L. C. COOPER, He was 19 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on, March 17, 1862. Wounded at Ellison's Mill, and Wilderness, Va. Surrended at Appomatox, Va. Was Born in Clarke county Ga. in 1843 in 1860 he was at Camden Ga. After the war he went to Freestone Texas and became a town merchant in 1870 He died in Texas before 1880. He was never married.

Private, William M. ELDER, He was 38 years old when he enter the 44th as a private, March 17, 1862. Wounded at Ellison's Mill, Va., and Sharpsburg, Md. Served through the war. He was Born Feb 1824 in Clarke County Ga. His 1st wife was Nancy, he was a farmer in 1850 with one son David born 1849. In 1860 the family lived on his farm in Coweta Ga. and 2 children. His father in law Jonathan and Mother in law Mary lived with the family. After the was he lived in Cuthbert Ga. with his 2nd wife Ann he was a brick mason at that time his new family with 3 children. In 1900 he was living with his daughter Mary's family.

Private, Allen W. GRIFFETH, He was 21 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va. Served through the war. He was born in 1841 to Allen and Susan Griffeth in Oconee county Ga. in 1860 he was a farmer living with his mother and father. After the war he married Susan and they had 5 children in 1880 he was a farmer in Oconee county Ga. He was living in 1903 on his farm.

Private, James J. GRIFFETH, He was 25 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Lost arm at Wilderness, Va. Discharged June 1864. Born 1837 in Cambell Ga. the son of Andrew, and Mary. After the war he married Sarah bought a farm in Gwinnett Ga. they had 3 children. He died in 1892 at home.

Private, Thomas M. HALL, He was 28 years old when he enter the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Ellison's Mill, Va. Served through the war. Born 1834 in Georgia, 1860 worked for Mosely carriage makers lived with the family in Dainelesville Ga. After the war married Sarah and they bought a farm in Baldwin Ga. They never had any children. In 1903 he was living in Oconee county Ga.

Private, Orion S. HAYGOOD, He was 22 years old when he entered the 44th as a private on July 27, 1862. Wounded near Washington, D. C., July 12, 1864. Served through the war. Born 1840 on his father's John farm in Newton Ga., his mother was Mary Ann Haygood he was working on the farm when the war started. Married Susan 1861 they had 5 children. After the war he returned to his farm In 1903 he was living in Conyers Ga.

Private, Nathan F. HUNT, He was 26 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Wilderness, Va. Lost arm at Cedar Creek, Va. Discharged account of wound He was born in Clarke county 1836 worked on the Sims farm in 1860 as a farm labor. He died in Atlanta Ga. 1881.

Private, Joseph B. LANGFORD, He was 24 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Wilderness, Va. Served through the war. Was born Feb. 1838 in Watkinsville Ga. the son of Preacher Bedford Langford and Mary Langford. After the war he returned to farming and married Synithia in 1872, they had 2 children he owned his Farm in 1900. In 1903 he was living in Clarke county Ga.

Private, John W. MILLER, He was 17 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsvi1le, Va. Lost foot at Cedar Creek, Va. Discharged account of wound He was born in 1845 in Watkinsville Oconee county Ga. His father James T, and mother Emily Miller farm. After the war he married Mary and they had 7 children moved his family to Texas he was a farmer. In the early 1890s he sold his farm and moved back to Oconee county 1903.

Private, William P. MOSELEY, He was 18 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on August 2. 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsville. Va. He was born in 1844 in Watkinsville Oconee county Ga. on his father Thomas Mosley farm. He is a younger brother of Thomas. After the war he marries Ellie and moves to a farm in Brown Texas. He died in Texas after 1880.

Private, Augustus C. OSBURN, He was 27 years old when he joined the 44th as a private, May 7. 1862. Wounded at Ellison's Mill, Va. Served through the war. Was born 1835 born Buncombe Clarke county Ga. was a farm labor in 1860. In 1903 living in Oconee county Ga.

Private, Andrew J. PICKERELL, He was 27 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on May 7, 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va. Served through the war. He was born in 1835 in Madison Ga. In 1860 he married Louisa they have 4 children after the war he returns to farming as a farm labor. He is living in Walton county in 1903.

Private, Jabez PULNOT, He was 18 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on January 7, 1864. Wounded at Winchester Va., September 19, 1864. He was born 1846 in Clarke county Ga. Like his brother he was working on his Mother Mary Poutnott farm. After the war he moved his family to Texas as a farmer he married Lillian they had 4 daughters and 2 sons. There was no record of him in 1900.

After the war he came back to the farm and his wife died. he died in the 1880's in Oconee county Ga.

Private, James W. DAVENPORT, He was 21 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va. Transferred to C. S. Navy 1864. Served through the war. He was born 1841 in Clarke county Ga. on Moses and Mary Davenport Farm. After the war he return to the Farm and married Sally they had 2 children. In 1903 the family was living in Athens Ga.

Private, William B. JONES, He was 20 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17. 1862. Wounded at Ellison's Mill. Va. Transferred to Third Georgia Regiment, April, 1863 He was born in 1842 in Clarke county Ga. on his father Wiley H. and mother Sarah Farm. After the war he married Mary they had 4 children he was Mechanic by trade living in Elbert Ga. In 1903 he they were living in Madison Ga.

Private, William T. OSBURN. He was 18 years old when he enter the 44th as a private, May 7, 1862, Wounded at Ellison's Mill, Va. and Gettysburg, Pa. Detailed as teamster April 1864. Served through the war. Born in 1844 lived in 1860 with Lawyer Berley family in Coweta Ga. After the war he married Elizabeth and they had 7 children living as a farmer in Giles Ga. In 1903 he was living in Oconee County Ga.

Private, Lewis LESTER Jr., He was 41 years old at the time he enter the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Ellison's Mill, Va., and Gettysburg. Pa. Transferred to an Arkansas Regiment and promoted to Sergeant. Born March 21 1821 at Oglethorpe Ga. son of Lewis and Elizabeth Patman died January 15, 1889. Married October 14 1841 to Martha. They had 4 children. After the war he return In 1903 he was living back in Arkansas.

Private, William B. PULNOT He was 26 years old when he enter the 44th as a private on May 7, 1862. Wounded at Gettysburg, Pa. Surrendered at Appomattox, Va. He was born on Feb 1836 in Clarke county Ga. at the start of the war he was working on his Mother Mary Poulnott Farm. He married Susan in 1859 they had a daughter Wee Ann in 1867 and returned to farming but did not own the land any more. In 1903 he was living in Oconee County Ga.

Captain, William B. HAYGOOD He was 38 years old when he enter the 44th as a 2ND Lieutenant, on March 17, 1862. Promoted 1ST Lieut. July 15, 1862, he was elected Captain on July 29, 1862 this was the same day when Colonel Lumpkin become commanding officer of the 44th. He was wounded at Sharpsburg on Sept. 17, 1862, again at Gettysburg on July 1, 1863 he lost his right arm. The same ball that took his arm also hit the Colonel in the leg. He was take prisoner on July 11 1863 with the medical wagons on there way back to Virginia. He was held at Johnson's Island till the end of the war. He was Paroled on Aug. 18 1865 in Athens Ga. When the war started he owned a farm in Watkinsville Ga. He was born Jan 5, 1824 His first wife was Melinda Thompson Haygood Born in 1832 died on April 5, 1882, They were married on Oct. 17, 1850. The had two children Samuel Limpkin Haygood born 1867 died 1885 as a student at Emory Collage in Oxford Ga., Miss Martha [Mattie] Thompsom Haygood born 1869 and died in 1946 she was a school teacher and never married. His second wife was Miss Sally Thompson was the sister of his first wife. His father was William, and Mother was Mary Polly Stroud. His Father had died and his mother own the Farm in 1860 valued at $12,500, she had personal value of $9600. She died in 1868. At the start of the war he own land in 1860 value at $2000 and had person value of $2500. He died at home in South Kerkwood DeKalb county Ga. on Monday Jan. 2, 1899.

1st Lieutenant, N, B, DURHAM, He was 23 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Promoted 1ST Lieutenant July 29, 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va. Captured at Spotsylvania, Va. Released 1865. He was Born 1839 in Dooley Ga. He worked on his mothers Martha Farm. Died since the war in Oconee County, Ga. One of the 600 Confederate officers exposed to the fire of Union guns on Morris' Island, S. C.

2nd Lieutenant, E. B. SPANKS, He was 25 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Richmond. Va. Promoted Second Lieutenant December 12, 1862. Captured at Fisher's Hill, Va., 1864. Released 1865. He was born 1837 in Clarke county Ga. the son of Bradford and Sarah on there farm. After the war he return to Cambell Ga. married Caroline and they had Nellie 1868 he had a farm at that time. In 1903 he was living in Worth Ga.

2nd Sergeant, William H. BISHOP, He was 22 years old when he enter the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded at Gettysburg, Pa. Promoted 2ND Sergeant. Captured at Spottsylvania, Va. Released 1865. Was born 1830 married Elizabeth in 1851 They had 2 children he was a butcher at this time of his life, he could not read or write in 1860. After the war his wife had died and remarried Melinda learned to read and write an they had a son William in 1867 became a policeman in the Town of Bibb Georgia were he lived in 1880. In 1903 he was living in Bishop Ga.

3rd Sergeant, Henry C. P0SS. He was 19 years old when enter the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Promoted Second Corporal and then Third Sergeant. Wounded at Gettysburg, Pa. Captured at Spotsylvania, Va. Released 1865. He was born Sept. 1843 his father was Henry F Poss was an Overseer, his mother was Mary. His first wife Sarah and had three children she died in child birth. His Second wife Nancy had three children. Became a farmer after the war by 1890 was a Carpenter in 1903 he was living in Bogart Ga.

Private, George W. AUTRY, He was 20 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Wounded and captured at Sharpsburg, Md. Exchanged January, 1863. Surrended at Appomatox, Va. He was born in 1842 in Clarke county Ga. to father Green and mother Caroline Autry farm. After the war he marries Sarah they have 5 children and the family moves to a farm in Arkansas. The family had moved back to a farm in Oconee county by 1903.

Private, Willis N. AUTRY, Born 9, January 1841 in Walton County Georgia, the Son of Green Berry Aurty, and Caroline T. Malcom Autry, He was one of 12 Children He joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862 at the age of 21 years old. Capture at Spottsylvania Va, Released 1865 He died on the 22 of September 1927 in Spaulding County Georga. This information came from his Great Grand son Thomas R. Hartshorn Jr.

Private, Charles L. BURGER, He was 19 year old when he joined the 44th as a private on August 30, 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va. Captured at Spottsylvania, Va. Released 1865. He was born in 1843 at his father Charles and mother Melinda farm in Watkensville Clarke county Ga. After the war he returned to a farm in Jackson Ga. he married Elizabeth they had Mary in 1867 an a brother Chandler living with them, He was living in Oconee county Ga. in 1903.

Private, Edward GLEASON, He was 22 years old and from Ireland when he enter the 44th as a private, March 17, 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va., and Gettysburg, Pa. Captured at Spottsylvania, Va. Exchanged 1864. He lived in Athens with his mother Rosanna and sisters after the war was a well digger by trade. He could not read or write and died before 1870 never married.

Private, Tolbert N. LESTER, He was 23 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17. 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va. Wounded and captured at Spottsylvania, Va. Exchanged 1864. He was born 1838 on his father Louis and mother Elizabeth Lesher Plantation. In 1860 he was the employer on his father plantation his worth was $21,000.00 in Watkinsville Oconee county Ga. After the war he return to the farm married Martha they had 3 children. In 1903 they were living in Widner Ga.

Private, Wiley B. McREE, He was 22 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Captured September 15, 1862. Exchanged 1862. Wounded at Snicker's Gap and Petersburg, Va. Served through the war. He was born 1840 in Clarke county Ga. on the farm of Rowan, and Harriet McRee. After the war he married Ellen and they had two sons, he return to farming. He is living in Green county Ga. in 1903.

In 1903 he lived in Bishop Ga.

Was born in 1840 in Haralson Ga. the son of Fennell and Mary Whitehead. After the war he returned to Cherokee Ala. bought a farm an married Madelia and they had 7 Children. In 1903 he is living in Ala.

2nd Lieutenant, William J. MOONY, He was 22 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Promoted Second Lieut. August 1863. Captured at Spotsylvania, Va.. Released 1865. Was born 1840 on his father Andrew and mother Nancy farm in Cass Ga. After the war he returned to the farm after his mother died he moved to Meriwether Ga. got married to Elizabeth bought a farm. They had 3 children. In 1903 he was living in Madison Ga.

1st Corporal, John C. H. MALCOM, He was 18 years old when he enter the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Promoted First Corporal. Captured at Spotsylvannia, Va. May 10, 1864, exchanged March 7, 1865. He was Born 1844 on his Father William and Mother Louisa Plantation in Clarke county. He married Florida in 1866 and they had a daughter Lily in 1869 she died in 1870, he remarried and they had 6 children He returned to his father's Farm after the war. In 1903 he is living in Oconee county Ga.

3rd Corporal, Calvin A. DICKEN, He was 18 years old when he joined the 44th as 5TH Corporal on March 17, 1862. Promoted 3RD Corporal. Captured at Spottsylvania, Va., on May 19, 1864. Released 1865. He was born 1846 his father R. B. Dicken and mother Mahala his father was a blacksmith they lived in Clarke county Ga. After the war he became a farm labor never married and died before 1880.

4th Corporal, William E. ELDER, He was 20 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Promoted 4TH Corporal. Captured at Spottsylvania, Va., May 10, 1864. Released after the surrender. He was born in 1842 on the farm of his father Daniel, and Minevia in Clarke county Ga. In 1880 he was a convict Guard in Green Ga. He had lost his wife. In 1903 he was living in Oconee county Ga.

Private, Alfred L. BEAVERS, He was 34 years old when he enter the 44th as a private on August 30, 1862. Captured near Front Royal, Va., 1863. Released 1865. Born 1828 in Pike County Ga. to John and Elizabeth Beavers his father was a Blacksmith. Married Mary Ann Word on Feb. 3, 1850 at Upson Ga. He work as a laborer before the war. After the war the family moved to Tarrant, Texas and bought a Farm. They had two children.

Private, Samuel W. BREWER, He was 27 years old when he enter the 44th as a private on August 18, 1862 Captured near Front Royal, Va., 1863. Released 1865. Born 1835 in Marion Ga. to William and Lucy Brewer he was a farmer before the war. He married Mary Ann in 1859. After the war he moved to Atlanta with his family They had 9 children. He worked a clerk in 1880 and had 1 black servant [cook] with her 3 children living with his family. In 1903 he is living in Madison Ga.

Private, Nathaniel DARNELL, He was 23 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 9, 1863. Captured at Spotsylvania, Va. Released 1865. He was born 1839 in Pickens Ga. in 1860 he married Elizabeth and was a farmer. After the war he moved to Newton Missouri as a blacksmith. In 1880 they have 9 children.

Private, Doctor E. HUFF, He was 18 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Captured at Spotsylvania, Va. Released 1865. Born in 1844 in Clarke county Ga. on his father Le Roy and Ara Huff farm after the war he married Alice he could not read and write in 1870 was a farmer. in 1903 he was living in Oconee County Ga.

Private, John P. HUFF, He was 26 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Captured at Spotsy1vania, Va. Released 1865. Born 1836 in Baldwin Ga. on his Mother Irene Huff farm. Married Lucy 1856 had 2 Children. After the war he return to the farm they had 6 more Children. He working on the farm in Puryears Ga.. He listed his job in 1880 as a Gold Miner. In 1903 he is living in Oconee country Ga.

Joseph was the son of Samuel & Margaret Shockley Kittle born in Elbert Co., Ga. about 1841 He was first married to Martha Peak in 1859, Clarke Co., Ga. & about 1869 he married Elizabeth Peak. They had 5 sons: James, Fred, Emory, Carl, David.. Joseph died about 1898 in Clarke Co., Ga.

Was born 1836 in Watkinsville Ga. the son of Preacher Bedford Langford and Mary Langford. After the war he married Elizabeth and they had 4 Children. He owned a hardware store in 1880 in Atlanta Ga. he moved back Clarke county in 1895 In 1903 he is living in Clarke county Ga.

Born 1830 in Clarke county Ga. in 1860 he is married to Malettia and they have 3 Children he is an overseer on Fullilove Plantation. After the war he returns and became a farmer in Walton Clarke county Ga. They had 2 more Children. He lived in Clarke county in 1903.

In 1880 his work was a Blacksmith and he was listed as disable. He had died by 1900.

He married Elizabeth in 1849 and was a farmer they had 3 children. After the war he returned home to be a farmer he was living in Walton county in 1903.

Private, Doctor M. HUFF, He was 23 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Served through the war. Born in 1839 in Clarke county the son of Sandy and Matida Huff on the farm. He married Mary in 1858 they had Sarah in 1860 After the war he returns back to the farm. They were Living in Atlanta in 1910 with their daughter.

Private Wilborn HUNT, He was 25 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 9, 1863. Served through the war. Born 1839 in Monroe Ga. in 1860 he was an Overseer on S. Perefor Plantation. After the war in died in Atlanta Ga.

Private, Francis G. MILLER, He was 20 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Served through the war. Born in 1842 on His father John and mother Nancy Farm in Bulock Ga. He died in Jackson county Ga. around 1870.

Private, Silas C. STEWART, He was 29 years old when he joined the 44th as a private, May 7, 1862. Served through the war. He was born 1833 in Clarke county Ga. He married Lithia and they had 2 children he worked as a ditcher when the war started. After the war he became a farmer and bought a farm in Oconee county Ga. They had 3 more Children. In 1903 he was living in Oconee county Ga.

Private, Levi I. STEWART, He was 27 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on July 7, 1862. Detailed as teamster 1864. Served through the war. Born in Atlanta in 1835. after the war he returned to Atlanta and in 1870 was a carpenter, he married Catharine and move to Meridian Mississippi and worked as a railroad labor. In 1903 he was living out west.

Private John W. DOGGETT, He was 27 years old when he joined the 44th as a private, March 17, 1862. Transferred to C. S. Navy April, 1864. Served through the war. Born in 1835 in Watkinsville Clarke county Ga. He was the son of Shadrack and Jane Doggett His father was a carpenter. In 1860 he worked as a farm labor. After the war he went out west.

3RD Sergeant, William B. HINTON, He was 23 years old when he joined 44th as 3rd Sergeant on March 17, 1862. Transferred to Ordinance Department May 20, 1862. He was born 1839 was working as farm labor on his brother farm in 1860. He died before 1870.

Private, Jeff V. CRAFT, he was 18 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on October 23, 1863. Detailed in hospital in Lynchburg, Va., May, 1864. Born 1845 at father Samuel and Mother Leaha farm in Hart county Ga. After the war he married Martha the had 3 children bought a farm in Carroll Ga. He died in 1885.

Private, Samuel M. SMITH, He was 18 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Transferred to Government works December, 1862. Born in 1844 to father Samuel and mother Mary Smith on their farm. After the war he married Martha and they had 2 children on His Farm in Watkinsville, Ga. In 1903 he is living in Tennessee

Private, Crawford A. WINN, He was 17 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on May 7, 1862. Transferred to the Troup Artillery, July 1862. He is born 1845 in Watkinsville Oconne county Ga. in 1860 he lives with his father D. Winn and mother Susan his father is a mechanic. After the war he lives in Arkansas on his farm he married Mary and they have 4 children.

Private, Joseph H. MURRAY, He was 18 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on August 2, 1862. Transferred to Artillery July, 1863. He is born in 1844 in Watkensville Oconne county Ga. His father William and mother Luann house. His father is a town merchant. After the war he return to work as a clerk in his father store. In 1880 he was married to Eugenia and they had 4 children. In 1903 he is living in Worth Ga.
